Heritage in the Making: The Story of Castle Arch Pottery
Located in the shadows of the medieval Kilkenny Castle, Castle Arch Pottery is more than just a studio—it is continuing the ancient Irish tradition of craftsmanship. Founded by Ray Power in 1993, our pottery was born from a desire to bring the rugged beauty of the Irish landscape into the heart of the home.
Starting in a small workshop at the Castle Yard, we have spent over three decades perfecting the balance between old-world techniques and modern functionality.
Inspired by the Elements
Our designs don't just happen; they are inherited from the textures and tones of Ireland’s rich heritage. When you hold a piece of Castle Arch, you are feeling the influence of:
Celtic Symbols. Many of our collections feature embossed patterns inspired by the intricate stone carvings found on ancient Irish monuments.
The Glaze Palette: Our signature glaze like the Glas Green are designed to mirror the shifting colors of the Irish sky and the wild Atlantic coast.
The Human Touch: Every piece is hand-thrown on the potter’s wheel. This ensures that while our collections are cohesive, no two pieces are ever identical, giving each bowl and mug its own unique character.
